Michele Cassata,
artisan and artist
Michele Cassata restores and creates sacred vestments in his workshop in Ciminna, in the province of Palermo. He works gold, silver, silk, coral and hardstones with the historic embroidery techniques of liturgical vestments. He does not stop at conservative restoration: in new pieces he does not copy the historic design, he takes it up and signs it.
Since 2000 – the Art of Liturgical Embroidery
One stitch at a time,
one choice at a time.
An antique vestment is not copied, it is read. Michele Cassata starts from the historic design and the technique it was embroidered with, then decides what to keep faithful and what to reinterpret. That is the difference between a restoration that preserves and one that converses with the original.
The last guardian of a sacred art.
The first to reinvent it.

Every piece begins with a direct request: a new creation, a restoration, a vestment to reinterpret. The first step is to tell us about it.
